Frequently Asked Questions

Answer:

Is Lily’s Kitchen appropriate for my elderly pet?

Senior or geriatric pets are those aged over around seven or eight years old. However, this categorization does depend on the size and breed, with large and giant breeds having shorter life expectancies than small dogs. Elderly pets have specific dietary requirements - they have smaller appetites and require energy dense, highly digestible food.

Each of these needs is amply met with our range of Lily's Kitchen cat & dog foods. Firstly, because our foods contain high quality ingredients and are all very low in grains, they are easier for the older animal to digest. They are low fat and low GI, so our diets can help prevent your senior pet from becoming overweight in old age. Using natural ingredients and hence high quality meat proteins, there is much less strain put on the aging kidneys and liver as they process the food.

The herbs in our diets are another reason why they can be especially beneficial for the senior animal: each of the twelve herbs we use in our recipes may boost and support health. For example dandelion, burdock and milk thistle can help support liver and kidney function. We also add nettles, rosehips, and several other herbs that can help the immune system and are a valuable addition to the phytonutrient mix as a nutritive and restorative tonic for overall health.
