Tuna & Sardine Fish Balls for Cats

Tuna is really good for the joints and internal organs, especially the heart, as well as helping to give cats a lovely coat. Sardines are also very high in omega-3, vitamin D and selenium. The added ground flaxseed ensures there is an extra omega-3 boost too. And it's not just for cats! Dogs can enjoy this recipe as well.

1 x 130 g tin of tuna in sunflower oil

1 x 100 g tin of sardines in oil

200 g (7 oz) potatoes

100 g (4 oz) fresh spinach, or 50 g (2 oz) frozen spinach 1 tbsp ground flaxseed

1 tbsp chopped parsley

Ingredients for tuna and sardine balls

1. Open the tins of tuna and sardines and pour the entire contents into a large bowl. Check for any large, hard bones in the sardines and discard. Mash the fish together and set aside.

2. Peel and roughly chop the potatoes, put in a pan of boiling water and cook for 15 minutes. Add the spinach to the potatoes for the last 5 minutes of cooking time.

3. Drain the potatoes and spinach and mash using a potato masher or fork. Add this vegetable mash to the fish, along with the ground flaxseed and parsley, and mix together.

4. Once the mixture is cool enough to handle, form it into about 6 balls, using your hands or 2 wooden spoons, and place on a plate.
